The subject of forest management is established in 1980 relying on the Forest Manager Research Laboratory, and approved by the Agriculture and Forestry Departments of China. The founder is Professor Shen Pengfei, a famous forestry scientist and forestry educator in China.

Forest management theory and technology: In the late 1970s, the first experimental site for forestry sustainable utilization in southern collective forest areas of China was established in Longmen County, Guangdong Province. It took the lead in the study of forest management planning, urban forestry and forest classified management, and so on in collective forest areas throughout the country. The functional circle of forest managers, the feedback mechanism for forest management plan implementation, the annual double analysis system, and the forest classification management were put forward successively, which have been made great contributions to promoting the scientific management of forests in southern collective forest areas and even to the development of forestry in China.

Economic theory and policy of forest resources: we mainly study the evaluation of forest resources and the function of ecological services, the construction of ecological public welfare forests, the policy of public finance, the system of forest rights and its operating mechanism, the development of forestry industry, the loss assessment of forest disasters, etc., and put forward the policy of forest classification management and the proposals of forest rights reform, which provide intellectual support for government decision-making.

Forest resources monitoring and evaluation: In 1981, Forest Manager Research Laboratory was responsible for building the first forestry remote sensing experimental site in China -- the Southern Remote Sensing Experimental Site of Ministry of Forestry, and the first forest resources information management system in South China collective forest area with dynamic monitoring standard site. This system provides a reliable technical support for the realization of digital forestry in the field of digital forestry system research in Guangdong Province.

Over the past five years, it has undertaken 56 scientific research projects with a total expenditure of 1.02 million yuan, published 100 papers, 3 textbooks and 8 monographs.
